TODAY'S TALKING POINTS
Democratic candidates faced off for the first time on CNN. Tuesday night’s presidential primary debate was the first chance to learn more about the five Democratic candidates, but let’s be honest — it was all about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton versus Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. They got locked in a tough fight over gun control and sounded off on whether #BlackLivesMatter. Clinton got a chance to say she was “sick of” government interfering with a woman’s right to choose; Sanders introduced Americans to “democratic socialism.” The best moment of the night? Obviously when Sanders told Clinton that Americans “are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.”
Israel plans to seal off parts of Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced the decision as part of "aggressive measures" to address the recent spate of violent attacks. Human Rights Watch criticized Netanyahu's plan, calling it "a recipe for harassment and abuse."
Planned Parenthood has officially stopped taking money for fetal tissue research. The organization’s president, Cecile Richards, said the move was an attempt to quell the controversy caused by undercover videos an anti-abortion group released. Meanwhile, that same anti-abortion group is calling Planned Parenthood’s announcement “an admission of guilt.”
Marlon James became the first Jamaican to win the Man Booker Prize. Judges of the prestigious award called his novel, "A Brief History of Seven Killings," the "most exciting book on the shortlist."
A new study revealed you're more likely to be sued for debt if you're black.ProPublica released a first-of-its-kind report that showed what a devastating drain debt lawsuits are on low-income black families, who face them at twice the rate of white families. The people hit the hardest generally don't have as much cash on hand — a symptom of systemic racism in home ownership's history.
