When Mic’s Zeeshan Aleem found out that the president would be visiting a well-respected drug recovery program for prisoners in Newark, New Jersey, he knew he had to cover it. “Prisoner re-entry is a hugely neglected part of the conversation about how to reduce mass incarceration. I knew we'd have the opportunity to capture something really special by talking to the people in the program, and listening to what they chose to reveal to the president in an intimate setting.
