| Mic’s Kevin O’Keeffe saw Stonewall last Friday and thinks you should change your date night plans. “There are a lot of great films hitting theaters this weekend. Stonewall is not one of them. This movie isn’t just bad, it’s wasting an opportunity to tell the important story about the Stonewall riots. It’s exemplary of Hollywood’s penchant for minimizing minority characters in favor of white, cis narratives — a problem particularly prevalent in LGBTQ stories. While it’s an individual disappointment, it offers a greater lesson for Hollywood in general: Diversity is not window dressing.” |
