Pennsylvania’s governor compared gay people to 12-year-olds

No, seriously. Republican Governor Tom Corbett’s attorneys said Wednesday that gay people are barred from marrying, just like 12-year-olds. Although 52% of Pennsylvania voters actually support gay marriage, Corbett is on a mission to block the 150 same-sex couples who were issued marriage licenses in suburban Philadelphia after the Supreme Court’s DOMA decision. This after Pennsylvania’s first openly gay representative was blocked from speaking on the state house floor about DOMA, because a Republican colleague said he’d be violating “God’s law.” The ACLU has filed a lawsuit challenging the state’s 1996 ban on gay marriage, but clearly it’s an uphill battle ahead.
