Sandra Bland’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit Tuesday. The suit was filed against the arresting trooper and other law enforcement officials. It’s an attempt by Bland’s family to seek answers after her mysterious death in a jail cell, which has been ruled a suicide. "The bottom line is, she never should have been inside of a jail. Period," said Bland's mother, Geneva Reed-Veal.
Also on Tuesday, the families of victims in the 2012 Newtown massacre reached a $1.5 million settlement against the gunman’s mother’s estate.
An Alabama officer kept his job after a plot to murder a black man and hide the evidence. Officer Troy Middlebrooks was caught on tape saying that resident Vincent Bias “needs a goddamn bullet” and calling him a racial slur. Officials paid Bias $35,000 so he wouldn’t publicly sue over the incident, but Middlebrooks continues to patrol Alexander City.
Officials began examining the plane flaperon discovered in the Indian Ocean. So far they just know that the airplane part belonged to a Boeing 777 — the same type of plane as MH370, which vanished more than a year ago. Technical experts in France could reveal this week that the part did in fact belong to the missing aircraft.
