TODAY'S TALKING POINTS
The plane part discovered in the Indian Ocean was confirmed to be from a Boeing 777. It's the same type of plane as Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which went missing more than a year ago after departing from Malaysia with 239 passengers on board. The debris could provide clues to what really happened.
The White House is expected to release intense plans today to curb carbon pollution. The administration’s plan, even tougher than the one proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency, will require states to slash carbon emissions from power plants by 32% from 2005 levels by 2030 — a 9% leap from the previous target. If the plan is put into action, it could change the United States’ energy landscape as we know it.
The FBI may have evidence that former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle paid for sex with a 16-year-old. Authorities are investigating a text message exchange that shows Fogle bragging about paying $100 on Craigslist for intercourse with an underage girl. He has not been formally accused of any crime.
Dylann Roof pleaded not guilty to hate crime charges. It’s considered temporary since the alleged Charleston shooter may plead guilty to the same charges in the future, depending on whether or not the government seeks the death penalty.
The 16-year-old stabbed at Jerusalem's Pride parade died Sunday. Shira Banki was one of six people attacked Thursday by a knife-wielding man identified as Yishai Shlissel, who had just been released from prison for a similar offense committed in 2005.
