Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough are responding to the President's vicious tweets about the TV hosts. The two, who were set to be on vacation today, made an appearance on MSNBC this AM to address the attacks.

When Scarborough first saw the tweets he says, "I was like this has to be a joke. the President of the United States as bad as he's been in the past, he hasn't really gone over the cliff. Then, unfortunately, we learned what we've always learned. That is that he for some reason takes things so much more personally with women. He's so much more vicious with women."

Brzezinski said she doesn't let his words get to her, but looks at it from a bigger perspective, "It does worry me about the country... He appears to have a fragile child like ego that we've seen over and over again, especially with women."

An Economist Does The Math On Single-Payer Health Care

California’s Democratic lawmakers blocked universal health care legislation — the culmination of a successful lobbying campaign to portray the proposal as unrealistic and unaffordable. But days later, advocates of a universal health care system in which the government is the single payer got three boosts. First, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren — a prospective 2020 presidential candidate…

Sally Yates, the woman who went to Donald Trump and warned him about his then-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn just blasted Attorney General Jeff Sessions. She was acting Attorney General briefly under Sessions with a quarter of a century’s experience working in the Justice Department. Yates wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post criticizing the AG for his latest deplorable act.

She wrote that Sessions wants to fill the for-profit prisons using “mandatory minimum drug sentences:”

‘Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled back the clock to the 1980s, reinstating the harsh, indiscriminate use of mandatory minimum drug sentences imposed at the height of the crack epidemic. Sessions attempted to justify his directive in a Post op-ed last weekend, stoking fear by claiming that as a result of then-Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s Smart on Crime policy, the United States is gripped by a rising epidemic of violent crime that can only be cured by putting more drug offenders in jail for more time.’

Yates pointed out that people from the left and right, red and blue, conservative and liberal groups realized the “lock them all up and throw away the key” approach is wrong:

‘All across the political spectrum, in red states and blue states, from Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) and the Koch brothers to Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and the American Civil Liberties Union, there is broad consensus that the “lock them all up and throw away the key” approach embodied in mandatory minimum drug sentences is counterproductive, negatively affecting our ability to assure the safety of our communities.’

The former acting AG argued the unalienable facts about crime in America:

‘That argument just isn’t supported by the facts. Not only are violent crime rates still at historic lows — nearly half of what they were when I became a federal prosecutor in 1989 — but there is also no evidence that the increase in violent crime some cities have experienced is the result of drug offenders not serving enough time in prison. In fact, a recent study by the bipartisan U.S. Sentencing Commission found that drug defendants with shorter sentences were actually slightly less likely to commit crimes when released than those sentenced under older, more severe penalties.’

‘During my 27 years at the Justice Department, I prosecuted criminals at the heart of the international drug trade, from high-level narcotics traffickers to violent gang leaders. And I had no hesitation about asking a judge to impose long prison terms in those cases.’

Yates continued, writing that criticizing the unreasonable mandatory-minimum laws does not work:

‘But there’s a big difference between a cartel boss and a low-level courier. As the Sentencing Commission found, part of the problem with harsh mandatory-minimum laws passed a generation ago is that they use the weight of the drugs involved in the offense as a proxy for seriousness of the crime — to the exclusion of virtually all other considerations, including the dangerousness of the offender… mandatory-minimum laws cast too broad a net and, as a result, some low-level defendants are serving far longer sentences than are necessary — 20 years, 30 years, even mandatory life sentences, for nonviolent drug offenses.’

The Senate GOP health care bill doesn’t repeal Obamacare; it replaces Medicaid

So what’s in the health care legislation that Senate Republicans unveiled yesterday? Here’s NBC’s Benjy Sarlin: “The 142-page Senate health care bill released on Thursday is easy to summarize: It cuts health care spending for low-income and middle-income Americans and uses the savings to finance large tax cuts for the wealthy and the medical industry. How it accomplishes this is simple as well: It makes large cuts to Medicaid and to subsidies for private insurance, meaning large chunks of money that the government would have spent on helping Americans afford coverage, pay for long-term care and reduce their out-of-pocket costs would instead be paid either by states or by the customers themselves.” As Axios’ Justin Green puts it, “The health care bill Senate Republicans unveiled yesterday would not replace Obamacare. It would replace Medicaid.” Indeed, that’s why conservative policy wonks like Philip Klein aren’t happy with the legislation. "[T]he draft legislation unveiled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., reads less like an Obamacare repeal bill and more like an Obamacare rescue package,” Klein writes. The question for Republicans: Do they view the legislative through a policy lens — or a political one?

Trump is no friend to the LGBT community and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

During his presidential campaign, Trump tried to pretend as though he was a friend to the LGBT community. However, we all knew that was immediately not true when he made Mike Pence his running mate. Pence was one of the most anti-gay governors in the entire nation, signing a law that made it legal for businesses to refuse gay customers.

Now, Trump has just proven his clear hatred for the gay community once again with a tweet in support of Georgia’s Karen Handel, the woman running for Congress in Georgia’s 6th District against Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Here’s the thing about that — Handel not only is against gay marriage but doesn’t see gay people as legitimate. She doesn’t see them as capable parents. In the spectrum anti-gayness, she’s about as bad as it gets, and Trump just endorsed her, during pride month.

In fact, she’d go so far as to outlaw gay adoptions:

That’s the woman Trump just told everyone to vote for.

Trump is no friend to the LGBT community and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.
