Teacher compares Trump To Rise Of Hitler

listen to the story from KQED

Frank Navarro has taught history and special education at Mountain View High School for 40 years.

Navarro said it all started about three weeks before the Nov. 8 election when he gave a historical lesson on Hitler’s rise to power in Germany from 1930 to 1933 and compared it to Donald Trump’s platform. “Adolf Hitler said he’d make Germany great again. Donald Trump said he’s going to make America great again,” Navarro said. “Hitler focused on the Jews as the great peril of Germany, and Trump focused on the Muslims and talk about a registry and keeping Muslims out of the country.” Navarro is an expert on the Holocaust and has studied at the International Center for the Study of the Holocaust in Jerusalem. The 65-year-old was also named a Mandel Fellow for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. After the lesson, Navarro said the principal came to him and said the parent of a student sent an email and was put off with his Trump/Hitler comparison. “I told him it would be beneficial to all involved if we sat down and kicked around the history,” Navarro said. “We could do it over coffee. I offered to do it with the parent, and I was greeted with silence.” Then, two days after the election, Navarro said he was asked to come to the principal’s office with a union representative. At that point Navarro said the assistant superintendent read him the parent’s email but wouldn’t let him see it. “The parent said in the email that I said Donald Trump is Hitler and that Trump hates Jews, Mexicans and African-Americans,” Navarro said. “And I countered I would never say that because it was sloppy historical thinking.” Navarro said there were also other accusations that he had never heard anything about. “I was also accused of feeding propaganda to my students and real bias, and then I was quickly informed I was on leave. I was to leave the campus immediately,” Navarro said. Navarro said he was told he would likely be returning to campus the following Wednesday after an investigation, including interviews with students. At this point, Navarro doesn’t believe there was an investigation because the students left school an hour after he left campus and they had Friday off for Veterans Day. He was back on the job Monday after the superintendent called him over the weekend. Navarro had been considering retiring at one point, but said he was planning to put it off for a couple of years because he loves the exchange with students. Since the election of Trump, Navarro admits these are perilous times for teachers in the classroom. “I would hope that no teacher self-censors, and I would hope that the administration looks carefully at what is being said before they move on somebody,” Navarro said. It’s clear Navarro still loves being in a classroom, and will be a reluctant retiree in June. But he said it’s hard for him to accept the lack of respect for his job as a teacher. “After 40 years, don’t I deserve a little more?” Navarro said.

PropOrNot is a Resource

We at PropOrNot are assembling tools and information to help identify and neutralize Russian propaganda. We are not waiting for an official response, and we need your help!

We call on the American public to:
  • Be aware that Russia is trying to supplant actual journalism (that has editors and fact checkers who impose accountability for mistakes), with fake-"media" online propaganda that Russia influences or controls.
  • Spread the word: Russia is attempting to manipulate the American people through online propaganda.
  • Obtain news from actual reporters, who report to an editor and are professionally accountable for mistakes. We suggest NPR, the BBC, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington PostBuzzfeedVICE, etc, and especially your local papers and local TV news channels. Support them by subscribing, if you can!
  • Familiarize yourself with this project, at www.propornot.com, and especially our IntroductionFrequently Asked Questions, and Manual Propaganda Analysis example, so you can practice distinguishing between Russian propaganda and actual news for yourself.
  • Share this sitewww.propornot.com, on social media, by email, and however else you think appropriate - especially with family members, reporters, politicians, celebrities, and other influencers.
  • Respectfully discuss this with people who you see credulously repeating Russian propaganda, if you think think they will listen. People will often have a hard time believing that their favorite "alternative" news sources are foreign-directed disinformation, but encourage them to take a carefully critical look. Look for ridiculous pro-Russian articles and posts on their favorite sites, and ask them: "What exactly is that doing there!?"
  • Participate in the YYYcampaignYYY, to help highlight Russian propaganda websites, accounts, and other outlets, by putting a YYY on either side of their name. It's straightforward.
  • Review our Reference Articles section, which provide excellent background on Russian propaganda and influence operations both in the US and around the world.
  • Join us on Reddit, at https://www.reddit.com/r/PropOrNot/, to help us track down and expose Russian propaganda outlets that we haven't discovered yet.
We call on individuals who think they might be, or have been, unwittingly involved in producing or spreading Russian propaganda, to:
  • Come forward with your stories. We want to know what happened, and we encourage you to get in touch with actual reporters who can tell your story with the respect and care it deserves. We can help with that if you would like.
  • Stop spreading Russian propaganda. Don't keep doing it in the hope that you will gather more information about how it all works. The US government already has plenty of information about this.
We call on Congressional leadership, and the Obama administration, to:
Finally, we would like to thank the many people who have helped us with this project, and whose work we are building on. We stand on the shoulders of giants. They are too numerous to list here, and many of them wish to remain anonymous for security and professional reasons, but some of them are listed in our Allies section to the right of this page.

Watch this space. Our tools are evolving and there will be much more soon.

Get to Know Your New President and Watch this Documentary Trump Blocked a Few Years Back

“Donald Trump: A True Narcissistic Sociopath (Full)” put Trump under a microscope LONG BEFORE there was a political point of view about him. This is just about a man… Trump tried to stop this movie from ever being seen. Now– years later– it is out. It is about the president-elect of the United States. Now the subject soon will have the nuclear codes because of white Evangelical voters who call him God’s own. You need to see this movie in order to understand what has just happened to America… and who the white evangelicals just made president… and it ends with a spine-chilling bizarrely prophetic pronouncement… 16 years BEFORE Trump is about to be inaugurated!

Was Our Election Hacked By The Russians

David Corn writes in Mother Jones,
There already is much smoke in the public realm: the hacking of the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Also, Russian hackers reportedly targeted state election systems in Arizona and Illinois. Coincidentally or not, the Russian deputy foreign minister said after the election that Russian government officials had conferred with members of Trump’s campaign squad. (A former senior counterintelligence officer for a Western service sent memos to the FBI claiming that he had found evidence of a Russian intelligence operation to coopt and cultivate Trump.) And the DNC found evidence suggesting its Washington headquarters had been bugged—but there was no indication of who was the culprit. In his recent book, The Plot to Hack America, national security expert Malcolm Nance wrote, “Russia has perfected political warfare by using cyber assets to personally attack and neutralize political opponents…At some point Russia apparently decided to apply these tactics against the United States and so American democracy itself was hacked.”

Trump's conflicts of interest

President-elect Trump controls more than 500 businesses, with assets valued at over $1.5 billion. There are simply too many opportunities for Trump to use the powers of his office to increase his personal wealth. The only solution is to sell these assets off and set up a blind trust.
Just one example: The Trump Organization just opened a new hotel in the Old Post Office Pavilion in Washington DC. The property is leased from the federal government through the U.S. General Services Administration, the head of which will be appointed by President-elect Trump.
That'd make Donald Trump both landlord and tenant -- and any questions or disputes regarding the terms of the lease or maintenance costs of the property will directly impact President-elect Trump's personal finances AND U.S. taxpayers' finances. We cannot tolerate this massive conflict of interest.
Voters deserve better -- Donald Trump must sell all of the Trump Organization's assets, and set up a blind, independent trust to manage his wealth while he serves as President. Add your name today to demand that President-elect Trump put his assets into a blind trust.
