THE LAST WORD |
Unlimited vacation and unlimited maternity and paternity leave sound like a dream. But it’s happening in real life — at Netflix. At least, in theory. After company officials announced a sweet new unlimited leave policy for new moms and dads, Mic’s Jon Levine talked to one employee who said that most new hires can’t take advantage of it because of high turnover, and because of a company culture that looks down on people who take time off. It turns out unlimited time off policies actually result in employees taking even less time away than they would with allotted vacation. Since the U.S. is the only developed country that doesn’t guarantee workers some form of paid leave, now might be a good time for us to work together to figure out how to give parents real incentives to spend more time with their kids. |
