The Chattanooga shooter reportedly followed a radical al-Qaida cleric online. FBI officials discovered evidence on Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez’s laptop and smartphone that showed he researched “militant Islamist ‘guidance’ on committing violence” in 2013. Law enforcement also found writing indicating that Abdulazeez was suicidal and, according to his family, “looking for a way to absolve what he considered were his sins.” A lawyer revealed Tuesday that Asaad Ibrahim Asaad Haj Ali, Abdulazeez’s uncle who lives in Jordan, has been in custody since a day after the attacks, but has not been charged with a crime
