California's governor declared a state of emergency over an oil spill

Nearly 105,000 gallons spewed full force from a ruptured pipeline, creating an extensive oil slick that coated about nine miles of the coast off of Santa Barbara County Beach. The state is trying to clean up the mess ASAP.

"It's important to remember this stretch of California coastline is unique to the world. It’s beautiful and pristine," Santa Barbara County Supervisor Doreen Farr told the regional NBC station. "This is more than an inconvenience. This is just a disaster. We are taking it very seriously."
