After a July 28th 2013, interview with Muslim-American scholar Reza Aslan, Green received criticism for her questioning. Aslan was promoting his new scholarly book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, on television. Green's questioning focused heavily on the idea of a Muslim writing on thehistorical figure of Jesus Christ and implied that Aslan had an inherent bias as a Muslim. Aslan defended his credentials, including a doctorate in the subject matter, and argued that his interest was scholarly. At the end of the interview, Green accused Aslan of hiding an inherent bias by not disclosing his faith background while discussing Christianity in his new book. Aslan immediately countered that the second page of his book mentioned he was Muslim, and cited the countless television and print interviews he has done.[5][6][7] During the interview Green, in an attempt to explain why she thought Aslan, a Muslim, shouldn't have been writing a book about Christianity, she also said, "Why would a Democrat want to promote democracy by writing about aRepublican?"[8] The interview was defined as the " the single most cringe-worthy, embarrassing interview on Fox News."
During a recent interview, Fox News reporter Lauren Green repeatedly questioned the propriety of religious scholar Reza Aslan writing about the Christian faith when he's Muslim. Green's standard is not only absurd on its face, it's also hypocritical: Green is a Christian who frequently writes and reports about Islam as Fox's religion correspondent.
Green joined Fox News in 1996 and was Fox News chief Roger Ailes' first on-air talent hire. An October 16, 2007, Baptist Press article reported that Green spoke to Christian college students about the importance of Christianity in her reporting, said journalists would achieve ultimate success by holding the Christian faith, and encouraged students not to "abandon your faith" in their work.
