Boehner lies on Meet the Republicans, but also reveals GOP sequester end game.
John Boehner used an appearance on Meet the Republicans (Seriously, NBC, have you looked at your guest list?) to lie about his role in the sequester "disaster," and also to announce the GOP's end game
Boehner actually refused to take any blame for the sequester cuts. None. Zero. This, despite the fact that the reason we're facing these cuts now is because Republicans played with the country's credit rating by messing with the debt ceiling. "The House did its work to avoid the sequester..." can only be true if Boehner thinks the House's work is to whine and make the Senate or the President do all of the work. As usual, David Gregory didn't follow up and ask him what the House actually did, besides pass a couple more abortion bills.
He actually had the stones to say the following:
"There's no one in this town who's tried harder to come to an agreement with the president and deal with this long-term spending problem."
Tried harder? This is a guy who won't even consider ending a few tax loopholes and subsidies; who won't even consider another bill, because the House passed two LAST SESSION that the Senate considered stupid and refused to consider. He's also scheduled the GOP House so they can have half of 2013 off. "Tried harder" isn't even in the realm of possibility.
All of this is because Republicans refuse to even consider closing tax loopholes and eliminating some tax subsidies for people and companies that do not need them.
Boehner was right when he said he doubted the immediate devastation of the sequester cuts on the economy, and perhaps inadvertantly revealed the Republicans' end game (we knew they had to have one), when he suggested that the sequester could be solved with the continuing resolution, which must be passed by March 27 to prevent a government shutdown, which even Boehner admitted would be a disaster for his party.
