AT&T could benefit from ALEC model legislation making its way through theCalifornia legislature. The bill, if it becomes law, would amount to pulling “out the rug on any rules to protect consumers” of phone services.
The company also reportedly teamed up with ALEC to push legislation in South Carolina that “effectively makes it difficult, if not impossible” for local governments to create publicly owned, free wi-fi networks.
As we mentioned to you in the last Origami, ALEC will be holding its annual convention in Salt Lake City this week. We know that AT&T is already sponsoring“Missouri Night,” but we have no word about what other state “nights” the corporation is helping to pay for. Want to place a bet that California and South Carolina are on the list?
