TODAY'S TALKING POINTS
China will announce a radical environmental plan. The world's No.1 producerof greenhouse pollution is hatching a grand plan to cut global warming emissionsand move toward clean energy sources. It's a huge step for the hazy nation that could make the rest of the world take action on climate change.
Pope Francis took a bold stand on behalf of immigrants. On Thursday, the pope became the first pontiff to address Congress, and he clearly had the refugee crisis on his mind. He urged lawmakers to not be overwhelmed by the mammoth number of displaced people seeking a new home. “View them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their situation,” he said. “To respond in a way which is always humane, just and fraternal." Check out his full speech here.
Black patients fare better than whites when both get equal health care. Researchers at University of California, Irvine, made this discovery after looking at 3.1 million Veterans Affairs patients over nine years — and it’s a surprising one, considering that previous studies have shown that black peoplehave worse health outcomes than whites. Turns out, if you provide the same health care to all races, health disparities change dramatically.
