Jurors declared Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes guilty.
 Holmes, who opened fire during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" at an Aurora theater on July 20, 2012, was found guilty by a jury Thursday on 165 charges. Holmes had previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Next, jurors will have to decide if he gets the death penalty or life in prison.
Four marines were killed and a Navy sailor was critically injured in shootings at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In a tragic incident that U.S. Attorney Bill Killian called an “act of domestic terrorism,” a gunman opened fire at a military recruiting center and a Navy reserve center before being taken down by authorities. The shooter, identified as Kuwaiti-born American citizen Muhammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24, is dead, and law enforcement officials are investigating the shooting spree.
Barack Obama became the first sitting president to visit a federal prison. The Commander in Chief spoke at a detention center in El Reno, Oklahoma, on Thursday to push to limit lengthy terms for nonviolent crimes as part of his larger goal of criminal justice reform.
TLC officially canceled "19 Kids and Counting" after Josh Duggar’s molestation revelations. After Josh Duggar admitted in May to molesting his sisters in 2002 and 2003, the network announced that they would stop airing the showOn Thursday, TLC made it official by killing the program and said that they’ll work with victims’ rights organizations to create a documentary about survivors of abuse.
